Regional rail and road freight interchange

The proposals are for development centred on the quarries and sandpits between the A25 and junction 2a of the M26 on a 250 acre site owned by CEMEX UK, Borough Green Sandpits and adjoining landowners. If it goes ahead and once it is fully operational, the KRAFT terminal would create up to 2,000 new jobs and the opportunity to take thousands of heavy goods vehicles off the county’s road network.
The principle elements of the proposed KRAFT scheme are:

The current illustrative masterplan depicts a scheme totalling 250,000 sq metres of floorspace in total and an intermodal rail/road transfer will be central within the overall site largely surrounded by warehousing units. Switches or railway points will be introduced to the existing railway track to enable both westbound and eastbound trains from the London Maidstone East to Ashford line to deviate into the proposed site. The proposal will incorporate parallel sidings of 775 metres for the embarkation and disembarkation of goods. In addition, there will be sidings entering three of the proposed units (Units 1, 2 and 3), and a siding to an aggregate/mineral distribution depot. The intermodal area will be enclosed with an acoustic wall in order to contain noise to the west and the impact on Borough Green residents
